Peripheral pumps, also referred to as regenerative pumps (also see Side channel pumps), are centrifugal pumps whose impeller (see Peripheral impeller) rotates in a largely concentric casing channel with an inlet and an outlet opening. Peripheral pumps operate by means of an impeller characterised by a large number of small dual-flow radial blades (with dual input) arranged along its peripheral area. The centrifugal forces inside the rotor generate a circulatory flow between the impeller and the casing channel. A pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gases), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action, typically converted from electrical energy into hydraulic energy. On the other hand, they have a better capacity. Another very striking advantage lies in the fact that these products are very inexpensive to purchase. For these reasons, they are widely used in the home to pump clean water , without abrasive particles or chemical liquids.

Peripheral pumps have higher
head coefficients and steeper
characteristic curves than side
channel pumps.

As the flow rate increases,
peripheral pumps' input power decreases.

Multistage pumps are peripheral
pumps that have multiple blade wheels
arranged at the different diameter levels o
f the impeller.
